  • Overview

    This position exists primarily to oversee and/or manage Geotechnical, CMT, or Environmental project activities and prepare analytical project reports. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring client satisfaction and may be tasked with teaching, scheduling, and coordinating the activities of Field & Staff Professionals and/or Technicians.

    The work requires the exercise of independent judgment and discretion in handling specific details and activities.  The incumbent is expected to work both independently and within a team environment with minimum supervision. 


    .  The position requires an incumbent to:

    • Evaluate, discuss and understand client needs and prepare subsequent proposals.
    • Ensure that all work meets all safety and quality standards, codes and specifications including set schedules and deadlines.
    • Ensure that field reports are properly reviewed and reported in a timely manner.
    • Recognize, analyze & resolve problems and issues at the earliest phase possible.
    • Provide timely and accurate information on progress, reviews, observations, solutions and/or any other project related information in an understandable format.
    • Prepare analytical geotechnical or environmental reports for appropriate and timely distribution.
    • Track budgets & project financials for accuracy; invoice clients appropriately.
    • Take the pulse of clients through conversations, meetings, industry events and customer satisfaction surveys. Ensuring a quick and proper response to all reasonable client requests.
    • Initiate new business leads and preparing proposals for new work in the Branch’s territory.
    • Represent the company professionally and technically with Technical, Marketing and Industry groups to maximize the company’s exposure to the Design and Construction Industry.
    • Perform other special assignments and projects as assigned by Regional Branch Management.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies)

    • Solid knowledge of engineering principals.
    • Thorough knowledge of Geotechnical, Construction Materials Testing and/or Environmental practices, procedures, codes and standards.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, arithmetic and vocabulary. Communications must be open and honest in keeping with Building & Earth open communication philosophy.
    • Ability to create and maintain accurate and confidential records and data and to prepare easily understandable reports for distribution.
    • Ability to organize, coordinate and prioritize tasks and schedules.
    • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, clients and client representatives and the public with a focus on maintaining a Customer/Client focus at all times.
    • Ability to dress, speak and act professionally & appropriately.
    • Ability to deal with stressful situations, multiple priorities and hectic schedules calmly and courteously.
    • Skilled in the use of computers and common project management and software applications, including ability to learn company specific software applications.
    • Ability to work ethically, honestly and safely at all times.


    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field, required. Master’s degree preferred.
    • PE License required
    • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in a similar consulting role preferred.
    • Experience in geotechnical investigations, geotechnical (or related) reports, defining testing plans, interpreting test data, performing engineering analyses for foundation design, drilling, boring plan layout, site preparation issues and/or slope stability.
